The Importance of an RSVP

30 Jun The Importance of an RSVP

importance of an rsvp

So today I want to talk about one of my biggest pet peeves. When it comes to wedding etiquette (or life etiquette) there are not too many bigger blunders than failing to RSVP. If you are planning on being in attendance or you cannot make the event, RSVP’ing to let the host know is NOT optional! Perhaps you weren’t sure if your schedule was free, you forgot, or you thought the host should figure you’re coming. Maybe for some odd reason, you simply did not realize you needed to rsvp. We know life happens, but the next time you receive an invitation, think about some of these reasons to give a prompt response.

For starters RSVP stands for répondez s’il vous plait, which simply means Respond Please. The host is asking you to respond so the polite thing to do would be… *drumroll please*… to respond. That aside, one of the main reasons most hosts require an RSVP is to make sure they have adequate amounts of food. Those steak/fish dinners you have at weddings are pricey!! Imagine how angry you would be if you paid $70 for a plate of food for someone who didn’t bother to show up? Doesn’t sound so nice huh? Or consider this scenerio (which is every host’s worst nightmare), someone shows up who did not bother to RSVP and you don’t have any food for them. That is not a good position to put someone in who was gracious enough to invite you to their event.didnt rsvpA lot of time goes into planning a wedding, sometimes even more than a year! Your host took time to research venues, meet with tons of vendors to make sure the food, cake, and decor would create a wonderful and comfortable atmosphere for you, AND they actually sent you an invitation.  Let’s break it down. More than likely the host made it really easy for you by providing a stamped envelope for you to mail your response back in. Now imagine 2 stamps times 200+ invitations. That’s a lot of time and money. So a few moments to respond shouldn’t be too much of your time right?

So to put it plainly please, please, please RSVP! By the way, we have some tips to make RSVP’ing simpler.  Leave a comment below if you want in on some of our rsvp’ing secrets!
