Glowing Skin This Day Forward

14 Sep Glowing Skin This Day Forward

how to get glowing skin Today, we have a guest post for you! Kathleen Makena from Makena Skin Care is posting today to discuss how to get glowing skin! She provides you with some do’s and don’ts especially as wedding day nears. We learned some things that we didn’t know, so this post is definitely worth the read! We’re changing our skin care routine tonight! Check out what she wrote.

unnamed (1)Ladies! Your big day is approaching. You’ve picked out the dress, envisioned your hairstyle and make-up…don’t forget to have glowing skin! To get started, I highly recommend meeting with an Esthetician to schedule a skin consultation and/or facial. I offer complimentary skin consultations and will work with you to make sure you are using the right products for your skin type so you will have healthy, glowing skin – not only for your wedding day, but for each morning after as you wake up with beautiful, natural skin next to your husband.

Some skin care basics are you DO want to wash your face twice a day. This includes every morning! Some people don’t think you need to wash your face in the morning because their skin did not get dirty overnight, but you perspire while you sleep so you want to cleanse the pores with a cleanser that is right for your skin type.

Exfoliating is also very important. You only need to do this 2 – 3 times a week. Be careful with what type of scrub you choose. Some cleansers have ground up walnut and apricot shells in them. Exfoliating will help with your cell turnover rate, and your products will penetrate better. The top layer of skin is about as thick as a piece or paper, so don’t be too rough. And don’t forget to include your décolleté (your chest area) and neck! Always treat these areas as you would your face, and don’t ever spray perfume there. The alcohol in the product attracts the sun.

Protect your youth by applying the appropriate moisturizer that contains vitamins and antioxidants to protect your skin from the free radicals in our environment. Even oily skin needs to be moisturized.

Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Sunscreen! Ladies, the sun is the number one cause of aging! The UVA and UVB rays break down the skin’s barrier and leads to premature aging of the skin. Wear sunscreen daily, year round. Epicuren offers a beautiful Zinc Oxide Sunscreen that is whipped so it is very light in texture, does not feel or smell like sunscreen, and leaves no chalky residue. It has Daisy Extract which helps to brighten the skin and minimize pigmentation.

To prepare your skin for the big day, I recommend scheduling at least 2 facials starting 6 weeks out. Have the first one to see how your skin reacts so you can see what results to expect. Then you can plan to have the second one as close as possible to the Wedding Day. I send every bride-to-be home with a goodie bag to do one last mask and hydrating treatment the night before the wedding. The results of your facial will last longer and your make-up will go on much smoother.

If you do get a break-out or feel one coming on, do not pick! You are damaging your skin, which can lead to hyper pigmentation and scarring. If you can, make an appointment for a facial, or min-facial ASAP. If you are prone to breakouts, it’s definitely good to keep a product on hand such as Clarify Blemish Eraser by Epicuren. The Salicylic Acid, Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera will help to dissolve oil and soothe the skin.

Enjoying growing old gracefully as you begin this exciting new chapter in your life!

Kathleen Makena became a Licensed Esthetician in 2005. A true passion for skin care is what led her to leave Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts after 14 years.  After receiving her license at Design’s School of Cosmetology in Paso Robles, CA, she has continued her education by taking classes in Los Angeles, CA, Las Vegas, NV and Hickory, NC.
